Rig Veda 10.191.2

The reference printed on your card, and the idea behind it.

Why this inspired us

Before the closing wish for shared hearts and minds comes a simple instruction: come together, speak together. Connection starts with showing up and talking.

In its original context

This verse comes from the very last hymn of the Rig Veda, a short hymn of four verses about people living in concord. (Its final verse, 10.191.4, is the source of our Woven Together card.)

After a first verse addressed to fire, this one speaks directly to the people gathered: come together, speak together, let your minds come to know together, just as the gods of old came together and each took their share. The picture is of an assembly, a meeting where everyone has a seat and a voice.

The word for coming together, speaking together and knowing together is the same small prefix, repeated three times, a bit like saying "with, with, with". The verse doesn't demand that people agree before they meet; it asks them to meet, talk and understand, and trusts that a shared mind comes from that.
